River Expedition Guide Course - Cariboo river

Learn in real-time while guiding a wilderness whitewater canoe trip! This 6-day expedition begins on the exciting Cariboo river near Horsefly BC and joins the Quesnel river, and ends on the mighty Fraser river.  Along the way you delight in the many class 2/3 rapids, the scenic riverside camping, and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities.

Your instructors will provide a combination of formal classroom-style lectures, active paddling and rescue clinics, as well as active mentoring – as is appropriate for each guide candidates level of experience.  This is an opportunity to learn the latest in rescue techniques and review best practices in risk management, client care, rescue skills, outdoor living, instructing, and much more.  The majority of this course is hands-on practice, and will have participants involved in all aspects of preparing and operating a safe and bonding adventure.

The course curriculum was created for the Recreational Canoe Association of BC by professional canoe guides throughout industry.  As such, a successful candidate will be well prepared to work as a canoeing guide on wilderness rivers with loaded canoes in up to class I whitewater at a minimum.

What Others Say

I took a paddling course with Charles in October of 2022. He is a wonderful teacher with a fun sense of humour. The paddling technique and safety feedback he gave each paddler in the course was concise, specific, and encouraging. He has a keen eye for detail, a kind way of communicating, and puts in the additional effort to guide each learner towards their personal goals. I would definitely recommend Charles and his company.
